General and administration

Simple Professional, Modern Clean, and Black and White Minimalist keep office and customer-facing experience clear.

First job and graduate

Entry-Level / General Worker and Graduate / Internship bring education, availability, projects, and practical skills forward.

Government and technical

Public-sector layouts support detailed service information, while technical and developer templates prioritise tools, projects, and certifications.

Which template should you choose?

Start with the vacancy, the amount of evidence you have, and the way that evidence needs to be reviewed.

  • Simple Professional: administration, receptionist, office support, and general applications
  • Modern Clean: customer service, retail, sales, call centre, and private-sector roles
  • Entry-Level / General Worker: learnerships, cleaner, shop assistant, security, and practical roles
  • Graduate / Internship: TVET, university, internship, learnership, and first-job applications
  • Government / Public Sector or Public Sector Detailed: DPSA, municipality, education, health, SAPS, and Z83-related applications
  • Experienced / Technical or Developer / Portfolio: artisans, technicians, IT support, data, cloud, software, and project-based work
  • ATS Compact One Page: shorter applications and quick recruiter screening

South African CV details to handle carefully

The vacancy should decide what belongs in the CV. Contact details, education, work evidence, skills, languages, licences, and references are often useful. Identity, health, marital, nationality, or other sensitive information should be added only when appropriate and genuinely required.

For government applications, the Z83 and vacancy advert remain separate authorities. A public-sector CV can support the application, but it does not replace required forms or declarations.

Use one profile across different applications

Changing templates should not change your facts. Job83 separates the CV information from the layout, so you can try a compact version, a detailed public-sector version, or a technical version without retyping everything.

After choosing a template, open the PDF and check page breaks, headings, dates, spelling, contact details, and references before applying.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one official South African CV format?

No single layout fits every employer. Follow the advert and use a clear template suited to the role and your evidence.

Do I need a photo on my CV?

Usually prioritise relevant, readable information unless a legitimate application specifically asks for a photo.

Can I change templates after entering my details?

Yes. The Job83 builder keeps the information separate from the selected layout.
