All shortlisted candidates for SMS posts will be subjected to a technical exercise and interview. Following the technical exercise and interview, a maximum of three (3) SMS candidates will undergo psychometric assessments to assess cognitive capabilities, behavioural preferences, emotional intelligence, and integrity.

The selection panel will, following the interview recommend a candidate to attend a generic managerial competency assessment (in compliance with the DPSA Directive on the implementation of competency-based assessments). The competency assessment will be testing generic managerial competencies using the mandated DPSA SMS competency assessment tools.
Correspondence will, due to the large number of applications envisaged to be received, be limited to short-listed candidates only, and the applicant should accept that his/her application has been unsuccessful should he/she not have heard from the Department within 4 months of the closing date. However, should there be any dissatisfaction, applicants are hereby advised to request reasons from the Department for any administrative actions which has adversely affected them, within 4 months, in terms of section 5, sub-section 1 and 2 of the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act 3 of 2000.
